January 9, 2023.

What began as a way to pass time during the pandemic has stretched into a way to be intentional about documenting the sometimes mundane moments sandwiched between making endless snacks no one appreciates and negotiating naps with overtired toddlers who run a tight ship like rogue pirates. I set aside time each Monday to snap a few photos of our day. You know, the days that all feel the exact same but somehow your kiddo doesn’t fit in the shoes they did last week meaning they are growing literally in front of your eyes. Whoever said “the days are long but the years are short” might have been onto something. Regardless, I’m thankful for the weekly reminder to photograph my household, just the way it is. The boys are only so small for today so it feels incredibly important to take the damn picture.

If you’re reading this and saying “I wish I could do this” remember: the best camera you have is the one on you. There is a pretty slick chance that you’re reading this on a smartphone with a camera! Alright, Hil; you got me, but I work all day. Okay, yeah, that’s a bit trickier. I work from home and the kids don’t have childcare so they’re here all day too BUT some of my best photos come from mealtime, bathtime, and bedtime. I hope you’ll give it a shot, too! Maybe you’ll even get in a few with a self-timer. Those ‘proof of mom’ photos are the best.

I photographed them over a period of about two hours this morning. The boys were spunky and fiery and funny. The morning winter light in our home makes me so happy. It pours into our main bathroom and the boys’ bedroom, spilling into the hallways with intensity, then fading into a nice, even warmth. We played hard but took it easy at the same time. Nowhere to be but here: the way I like it. A popsicle bath, a dance party, hide and seek in bed, marble run fun, some mischief, and some cute boys in cute light.

Thanks for following along :)
